Thread: Apertures

    Default Apertures

I wonder if anyone can help please?

I'm looking for some frames or apertures to put round my stitched cards, the trouble is the 'hole's' got to be quite large (about 6" x 4"). The shapes can be round, oval, square or rectangular (square and round would work with some of the patterns).

I don't know if you can buy dies like this, I can't find any if you can but dies would be better if I could get them so I could cut my own.

The reason I am asking is that I'm going to do the stitching on pieces of card rather than straight on the card.

Don't know if I've explained this very well, I hope you can understand what I mean.

Pam don't know if these are any good.
The measurements are in mm not inches, you'll obviously need to convert sizes
Is this the sort of thing you are looking for?

    Hi Juliet and thank you.

There are a couple there that would be the right size in oval and rectangular but I think mount board might be a bit too thick.

Yep pam I think you might be right.
You've probably looked on ebay have you?
I did see some, similar to the ones from craft creations, on there the other day as I was hunting for some frames for scrapbooking.
Hope you get what you are looking for somewhere.
    The frames are out there!!!

Just had a thought......have you searched on picture framing type sites? Might be something there but again might be too thick.

You could use a Fiskars circle or oval cutter as the size of the shape can be changed from 1" to 8". I use mine to cut ovals and circles and found that once I got used to it, I can cut through card and paper easily.

Thanks juliet, I've found some on a site that might be alright. lol Trouble is you have to buy the inside bit as well and you don't get a choice of the colour you want.

Hi LothianCrafts, I think I might have the Fiskars cutter/s, my stuff is in such a muddle at the moment I don't know what I've got. lol I did see some large blue shapes in a drawer the other day but they might be too big, wasn't thinking about the apertures or frames at the time.

    Thank you for the reply.

Was watching the Pinflair steppers on C&C - you should be able to make frames with them http://www.createandcraft.tv/Pinflair_Stepper_Collection_156924.aspx?fh_locatio n=//createandcraft/en_GB/show_cc@gt;{2090693}/$s=2090693

I use the Fiskars templates for any apertures I make too. Not very effective on heavy weight card though.

    Thank you craftycat and Craftyweebee

I've looked at the Pinflair stuff (didn't know about the steppers) and I've been trying to find out what size they are. This is the only thing I can find (Each Stepper Mask size - 14.7 square) and I'm not sure what it means lol. If the biggest outside measurement is 14.7 cm I don't think they will be big enough.

    Thanks for the info.

Not sure the Fiskars template would be big enough either
