I always use mcs for my inserts. Never had a problem.
I can't believe how long it has taken to make inserts for two cards, which are A5 square top openers. I thought I'd use the MCS A5 template but it printed the markers and not where it shows on the screen.
My favourite would be a border, a small image and add a verse. Does anyone know an easy way?

How do you do it?
Forgive my total ignorance but what is an A5 square top opener please?
I never use the paper size template facilty on MCS as it is a waste of paper and as you say you get crop marks. If you go to the top bar you'll see File, Edit etc.
Click on File and at the bottom under Print and Print Preview you will see Page Set Up.
Click on Page Set Up and a pop-up appears asking you to select Paper size (there are loads to choose from) and Orientation and asks for margin settings (the margin are the dotted lines you see on the workspace screen - I tend to use borderless printing so set them to 0).
Once you're happy with the settings press OK, you will then see your workspace change to correspond with your settings.
The other thing you can do is to just to use the A4 Portrait, that comes up when you open MCS, and use the top half of the sheet which will give you the A5 (210mm x 148 mm) - you could create a white or coloured box that size using the size/position function and that way you will know you have the correct dimensions.
I set up an a5, a6, and dl when i first got mcs. I saved them, and now when i want an insert, I pull up the appropriate size, change the message and border, picture or whatever I put on it last time, print it out and trim a couple of mm off all round so it fits inside card neatly.
I don't usually bother with the CD inserts. I fold the paper I am using to the right size. As Budgie says it needs to be trimmed a bit so it fits inside the card. If I want something decorative on the insert I use punches, stamping or embossing. I think this gives more of a "handcrafted" result.
Thanks Craftycat,
I know that as a tent fold, LOL.
